The Story Behind Porsche – Innovation to the Limit

All inventions, great or small began its life as a mere idea of the inventor, so if you wish to be an inventor, you need ideas. Every single person in the whole world have ideas, they come popping right in every now and then. So if people have ideas all the time, the question still remains, why aren’t they inventors? Yes you need ideas, but ideas alone that lie dormant inside your head cannot automatically make one an inventor. It has to take its form into our physical world, it could be an appliance or a machine. It’s the making of these ideas into a physical object is the hard work, you will need to make prototypes, testing out whether or not your invention works more about here.

How on earth did Porsche become the well known luxury brand that they stand today? Is it just simply the Porsche Panamera that brought Porsche into the big leagues? So get your pencils and spreadsheets ready because we will be looking at how Porsche changed the very definition of luxury forever.

Sleek form and functionality.

Horological, keep that in mind because it’s the word of the day. Horology is the study of the measurement of time.

Luxury car brands are known for collaborating with watch makers to release high quality watches that take inspiration from cars. But Porsche is one of the few companies that seriously dived into horology.

Porsche has completely reshaped the watch industry with their dedication and craftsmanship. But how did they do this? By merging both function and form into one beautiful piece. This is the exact philosophy of design by Bauhaus. They say that an object’s form cannot be separated from the object’s function and this applies the other way around also.

Ferdinand couldn’t just settle for making cars alone. He wants to take his design skills to the very next level.
He left his family business to pursue his dream and that’s when he established Porsche Design. And what is his first product you may ask? A simple wristwatch.

Nobody was wearing or even cared about black wrist watch way back in 1972. Ferdinand was looking around and saw that the traditional leather or gold wristwatches were somewhat lacking something. His first creation was a booming success, it was a black steel and a bracelet.

He didn’t even bother about giving it a fancy name. He called his wristwatch the Chronograph. The design of the watch took inspiration from airplane gauges.

In order for an analogue watch to be functional you must be able to quickly tell the time with just a small glance. The black face of the watch coupled with its white markers made this much easier to do.

It’s a timeless classic of a design. The watch stood the test of time and still looked just as fresh as it did 40 years ago as it does now!
